In & Around

Oudtshoorn is located centrally to the Klein Karoo and within an hour or two's drive of almost every hotspot in the region – from George, Mossel Bay & Hartenbos to Calitzdorp & Beaufort West. This makes it an ideal destination for visitors to the area who would like to take in everything the area has to offer from a central base. Being this close to the George airport (a 40 minute flight from Cape Town or Port Elizabeth), Oudtshoorn is a likely accommodation hotspot for 2010 World Cup Soccer fans.

Oudtshoorn has it's origins in ostrich farming and a lot of the old colonial stature is still obvious in architecture and lifestyle. Ostrich farming still contributes greatly to the economy of the region and you will find ostrich by-products almost everywhere in Oudtshoorn.

The area has a rich plant & wildlife heritage. We can recommend day trips to a variety of ranches and reserves. Another popular scenic activity, would be a trip over/through the Swartberg Pass.

Off course, no summary of things to do and/or places to see in and around Oudtshoorn would be complete without special mention of the world famous Cango Caves.
